Fall is definitely here, and now is the time to get your yard prepared for fall and winter. Following is a list of projects to get you started.
Fertilize your lawn, preferably with a spreader. Walk-behind spreaders do a better job because you can set it to evenly distribute the granules. Now is also a good time to reseed your lawn if needed.
Clean up the garden, both vegetable and perennials. This’ll help keep bugs and plant diseases away. You can use the cuttings to start or add to your compost pile.
Because bugs and spiders look for warm places to live as the weather cools, have the outside of your home sprayed to kill bugs.
Keep leaves raked and disposed of if you don’t use them as compost. Fallen leaves not removed or mulched can block vital sunlight and thin your grass.
Now is the time to plant flower bulbs that will bloom in the spring. Garden centers carry an abundance of bulbs this time of year and it’ll be worth it to see the colors blooming in the spring.
Fall is a good time to plant trees or shrubs and they’re usually on sale this time of the year.
When it’s time to put away all the outside tools you’ve been using during the previous season, make sure you clean them beforehand keeping them from rusting. When you are sure you won’t be mowing for a while, be sure to maintenance the mower before putting it up for a while.
Store your lawn furniture and put away any cushions along with the grill until next year.
Check your gutters to make sure there’s nothing clogging them.
